Dr. G. M. Devagiri, born on 20th November 1967 is a distinguished academician and administrator currently serving as Director of Research, University of Agricultural Sciences, Mandyaand Dean (Forestry), College of Forestry, Ponnampet. With a specialization in Forestry, Ecology, RS&GIS, Climate Change, Agroforestry, Biomass carbon mapping & monitoring and Resource Governance, he holds a Ph.D. from ICFRE, Dehradun, and has over three decades of experience in teaching, research, and extension.
He has guided 30 M.Sc. and 5 Ph.D. scholars, handled 12 major research projects, and published 75 research papers, 5 books, and 5 book chapters. His contributions have earned him prestigious honors including the ICAR Best Teacher Award (2019) and Dr. Radhakrishna Shikshana Ratna National Award (2012).
Dr. Devagiri has represented India in academic forums across North America, Europe, Asia, and Africa, and serves on multiple national and international committees related to forestry, biodiversity, and sustainable development. He is the Nodal Officer and International Coordinator for the IDP-NAHEP project and actively contributes to eco-sensitive zone monitoring, biofuel and carbon credit initiatives in Karnataka.
The University of Agricultural Sciences, Mandya is spanning over South-Western Karnataka covering Chamarajanagara, Hassan, Kodagu, Mandya and Mysore districts to cater the research needs of farming community and agro-based industries. Our vision is to focus the university has a hub for agriculture and allied science research globally for strengthening livelihood of farming community and eco-system sustainability.
