Agricultural Research Station, Arsikere, Hassan

Agricultural Research Station, Arsikere was established in 1958 as Regional Coconut Research Station by the Department of Agriculture, which was then shifted to Department of Horticulture in 1963. It was taken over by the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore (UASB) in 1987 and transferred to University of Agricultural Sciences, Mandya in the year 2025. ARS, Arsikere is located at approximately 7 km from Arsikere town, on the Arsikere–Hassan Road, Hassan district, Karnataka with Latitude 13° 15′ N, Longitude 76° 15′ E and altitude of 808 m above mean sea level. The mean minimum temperature is 9.6°C (January) and mean maximum temperature is 39.1°C (April). The farm has an area of 23.91 ha under protective irrigation with an average annual rainfall of 654.80 mm, mainly from April to October. The farm falls under the Southern Dry Zone (Zone 6) of Karnataka with red sandy loam to medium black clay soils with of pH around 6.50-7.50.

The station has different demo units like dairy, sheep, bio-digester, compost, vermicompost and nursery. In addition, the farm consists horticulture demo blocks of Coconut, Cashew, Mango, Tamarind and Sapota. Several research experiments, multi location trials, field days and trainings are under progress. Farm is actively involved in production and supply of 8-10 tons of quality seeds (breeder seed, foundation seed, certified seed and TL seeds) of Soybean, Ragi, Field bean (Avare), Horse gram, Fox tail millet, Green gram, Blackgram, Sesamum and Nizer.
