AGRICULTURAL AND HORTICULTURAL RESEARCH STATION, MADIKERI

The station was started in 1951 as Seed Multiplication Farm under the Department of Agriculture. It was transferred to the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore in 1965. Agricultural and Horticultural Research Station, Madikeri was established in the year 1965 and it was transferred to University of Agricultural Sciences, Mandya in the year 2025. The research work on paddy was intensified since 1969 and mostly on developing varietal recommendation. It is located on Race Course Road, Dairy Farm, Madikeri. The total area of the station is 11.46 acres. The station is situated in 1152 M above MSL with latitude of 10°51’ N and Longitude of 72°25’ E. The station receives an average rainfall of 2783 mm of which about 60-70% is received between June and August. The soil ranges from sandy to clay loam. A big proportion of the agriculture lands other than plantation crops, are valley bottoms with clay loam soil with high nitrogen content. The soil in the slopes called up lands is sandy loams. Light showers are received in the months of April and May, heavy rains to an extent of 80 percent received between June and October months and will continue to mid- November. Maximum temperature is 27°C and Minimum is 16° C.
