The Agricultural Research Station, Madenur, Hassan was established in the year 1973 and station activities were initiated on 01.09.1974. The station is situated 20 km from Hassan on the Mangalore-Bengaluru highway. It is located at an altitude of 423.67 M, 13.00° North and 76.09° East latitude and longitude, respectively. The total area of the farm is 42.00 ha, out of which the area under cultivation is about 25.00 ha. The major activities of the station are station trails; multi-location trails; farm trails; breeder seed production of ragi, redgram, soybean, field bean, and green gram; quality seed production of different crops; coconut nursery; arecanut nursery; need-based horticultural crops nursery; coconut production; livestock production (sheep, cow, and pig) and a crop museum for farmers and students.
The soil of this research station consists of red sandy loam to sandy clay loam. The soils have a pH varying from 5.4 to 6.5, EC 0-0.05 (normal), low in organic carbon and available phosphorous, fairly adequate in available potash. The average rainfall is 840.50 mm with 45 rainy days. The maximum temperature is 330°C and the minimum temperature is 110°C.
