Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Chamarajanagara was started in 2004 and is a small Agricultural University in the district, which provides training to farmers, as well as technology transfer and development in the farmers’ field, including field experiments, frontline demonstrations, extension and research work based on the principle of “See, Learn, Do and Know”.
This centre is continuously undertaking capacity building work in matters related to agriculture and allied activities for professional farmers, farmwomen, young farmers, agricultural labourers and extension workers of various development departments based on their local needs and problems. To provide technical information to farmers, a soil and water testing centre, a plant health clinic, a bio-fertilizer and bio-fungicide production unit, a bio-fuel unit, a sales outlet, a sheep farming unit and various crop demonstration units have been established at this centre.
A turmeric processing unit (Common incubation centre) has been started under the One District One Product (ODOP) scheme.
The main mandate of a KVK is technology assessment and demonstration for its application and capacity development.
