The UAS, Mandya operates across four agro-climatic zones (Zone 4, 6, 7 and 9) spanning the districts of Chamarajanagara, Hassan, Kodagu, Mandya and Mysuru. These zones represent diverse climatic conditions, with most areas receiving low annual rainfall (600–750 mm), except for the Hilly Zone (Zone 9), which receives 2000–3000 mm and enjoys a cool, equitable climate.
To address region-specific agricultural challenges and opportunities, dedicated research stations function in each district, focusing on principal crops and farming systems suited to their respective zones.
